Kelsey Bateman, a former Rock of Love contestant, has died unexpectedly at 39, her family told TMZ.
A Utah native, Bateman was 21 when she appeared on the third and final season of the VH1 dating show in 2009, competing for Poison frontman Bret Michaels. She made it to the top nine before being eliminated in episode seven after admitting she had gotten too drunk and laid on a speed bump, emotionally overwhelmed.
Michaels, now 62, told her on the show: “I think tonight… you need to be who you are not, the fact you need to drink this much?” He added, “I’m going to let your tour end here.”
Bateman quipped, “Apparently Bret just can’t handle a girl that likes to get drunk and lay on speed bumps.”
After leaving, she said she planned to stay single and avoid dating older rock stars.
Little is known about her life after the show. Michaels later married Kristi Michaels in 2013; they share two daughters.
