Magda Szubanski Shares Health Update Amid Cancer Treatment
Actress Magda Szubanski, 64, recently shared a heartfelt health update from her hospital bed while undergoing treatment for stage-four mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
Best known for her roles in Kath & Kim and Babe, Szubanski thanked 10-year-old Annabella from Adelaide in an Instagram video for dressing up as her iconic character Sharon Strzelecki for Book Week, saying the gesture lifted her spirits during chemotherapy.
“Chemo is smacking me around right now,” she captioned the post, adding in the video: “Thank you, my sweet. That really cheered me up.”
Diagnosed in May, Szubanski revealed the cancer was discovered during a breast screening that showed swollen lymph nodes. Despite the seriousness, she expressed gratitude for her support network and praised Australia’s medical care.
She also reminded fans to keep their distance due to her weakened immune system: “No hugs or kisses—just wave from afar and know I love you madly.”
