Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Family Life
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have dedicated their lives to raising their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Archie was born while they were still royals, but by the time Lilibet arrived in 2021, they had left the Royal Family and settled in California.
Their children are growing up away from the royal spotlight, with little connection to their cousins or extended royal relatives—something that could affect them in the future. Harry and Meghan had hoped for a different life for their children, prioritizing privacy and a more normal upbringing.
From the start, the couple handled things differently. Archie’s birth in 2019 at Portland Hospital was kept private, breaking royal tradition. Harry even shared in his memoir Spare that he used laughing gas and ate Nando’s chicken during Meghan’s labor. Although there was initial concern during the delivery, Archie was born healthy.
Lilibet, named after Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname, was born in 2021. Her name sparked controversy over whether the Queen had been properly consulted. Her birth followed a heartbreaking miscarriage in 2020, which Meghan later wrote about in a personal essay.
Despite their grief, Harry and Meghan feel blessed with their two children. Meghan is reportedly emotional watching them grow and cherishes time with them, especially around the anniversary of the miscarriage.
Now focused on their family and new ventures, including Meghan’s lifestyle brand and Harry’s work with Invictus Games, they balance public life with parenting. A recent trip to Nigeria without the kids highlighted how hard it is for Meghan to be away from them.
As for expanding their family, the couple has been clear: two children is enough. Both have spoken publicly about being content, citing environmental concerns and personal fulfillment. “Two is it,” Meghan said in their Oprah interview, with Harry echoing that they are “done.”
Still, as time goes on, only they truly know if their family might grow again.
