Demi Moore opened up about Bruce Willis’ “difficult” battle with dementia during a recent appearance on the Oprah Winfrey podcast. In a clip shared during Oprah’s interview with Willis’ current wife, Emma Heming, Moore reflected on seeing her ex-husband change.
“It’s hard to see someone so strong become someone else,” said Moore, who shares three daughters with Willis. “But it’s important to meet them where they are, without expectations. When you do that, there’s a softness and beauty that remains.”
She emphasized the importance of staying present: “Projecting forward brings anxiety, and looking back brings grief. But in the present, there’s still so much of him there—even if not always verbal.”
Moore’s comments come shortly after Heming revealed she made the “hard decision” to move Willis into a separate home better suited for his care. Despite this, Willis still shares meals with Heming and their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.
Willis, 70, retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia and later frontotemporal dementia. Heming, 47, discusses her caregiving journey in her upcoming memoir, The Unexpected Journey, releasing Sept. 9.
“Bruce is still very mobile and in great physical health—it’s just his brain that’s failing him,” she shared in a recent interview.
