After losing his wife, Jim finds hope in a new relationship with Emily. However, as he tries to balance his new life with his daughter, Amy, he realizes blending a family is more challenging than expected.
Three years after Karen’s death, Jim meets Emily. Though he’s still grieving, his mother encourages him to pursue happiness. After a few months of dating, Jim introduces Emily to his daughter, Amy, who is nine. Amy quickly warms to Emily, and Jim proposes two years later, with Amy’s blessing.
However, during wedding preparations, tension arises when Emily suggests replacing Amy as the flower girl with her nephew. Jim insists Amy will have her moment, but doubts begin to surface. The night before the wedding, Amy asks if her late mother would approve of the changes, and Jim assures her she would.
On the wedding day, Jim overhears a conversation revealing Emily and her bridesmaids planned to lock Amy in a room to exclude her. Angered, Jim confronts Emily at the altar, exposing her actions to the guests. Emily admits she couldn’t bear Amy’s resemblance to Karen. Jim decides to cancel the wedding, choosing his daughter over Emily.
The next day, over breakfast, Amy asks if Jim made the right choice. Jim confirms he did, as Emily’s actions would never be acceptable. Though it’s a difficult moment, Jim feels at peace, knowing he made the right decision for his family.
