After losing his wife, Jim meets Emily and begins to hope for happiness again. But blending a new relationship with his daughter, Amy, proves more challenging than he expected.
Three years after his wife’s death, Jim meets Emily and, after dating for a while, introduces her to Amy. Emily agrees that Amy’s feelings are a priority. To Jim’s relief, Amy bonds with Emily quickly.
Two years later, Jim proposes. Emily fits into their family, and even Karen’s parents give their blessing. However, as wedding preparations unfold, tensions arise, especially when Emily suggests her nephew replace Amy as the flower girl. Jim insists Amy will have her moment.
The night before the wedding, Amy asks if her mom would be happy. Jim reassures her that Karen would want him to find happiness. But on the big day, Jim overhears bridesmaids planning to lock Amy in a room to avoid seeing her resemblance to Karen. Jim confronts Emily and calls off the wedding, telling her that he will never let anyone harm his daughter.
Later, Jim and Amy talk over breakfast. Amy wonders if he regrets not marrying Emily. Jim affirms that while Emily made him happy for a time, her actions showed she didn’t truly care for Amy. Jim knows he did the right thing by standing up for his daughter.
