Melania Trump drew attention alongside her husband, Donald Trump, as they arrived at the United Nations on Tuesday. The couple briefly got stuck on a halted escalator, though it didn’t stop the former president from delivering a lengthy speech at the General Assembly.
While Donald’s teleprompter also malfunctioned, it was Melania’s composed demeanor and distinct smile that caught the spotlight. Standing in front of her husband when the escalator stopped, she remained calm, later described by body language expert Judi James as displaying a “Sphynx-like” smile.
Trump joked during his speech that Melania’s good health prevented a fall, and the White House even called for an investigation into whether the escalator issue was intentional. The UN stated it was caused by an accidental safety trigger.
Despite the incident, Melania stayed to watch the speech, her subtle expressions contrasting sharply with her husband’s fiery delivery.
