Geography slip-ups happen — but when it’s the U.S. President, the world takes notice.
European leaders recently poked fun at Donald Trump over his latest geographical mix-ups. Among them: confusing the Congo’s location, calling Hungary’s Viktor Orbán the leader of Turkey, and saying Hungary borders Russia.
He also claimed to have solved the long-standing conflict between Azerbaijan and Albania — two countries with no conflict and on different continents. The actual peace deal was between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
At a summit in Copenhagen, Albanian PM Edi Rama joked about Trump’s blunder, prompting laughter from French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Despite the confusion, Trump did help broker a real (though unsigned) peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Still, in a press conference, he again mispronounced “Azerbaijan” and brought up Albania, calling it a major personal victory.
