Erika Kirk Breaks Silence After Husband Charlie Kirk’s Death
Many have noticed Erika Kirk smiling in public since her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was tragically shot on a Utah campus on September 10. Now, she’s addressing the criticism — and her grief.
The 30-year-old broke down in tears during a massive memorial service on September 21 at State Farm Stadium, where 100,000 mourners, including President Trump and Vice President JD Vance, honored Kirk’s life and career.
Since then, Erika has appeared on her late husband’s podcast to discuss becoming the new CEO of Turning Point USA. But her upbeat demeanor drew backlash, even from Candace Owens, who accused her of seeming “too happy” and not demanding answers about the shooting.
Erika responded that “there’s no linear blueprint for grief.”
“One day you’re collapsed on the floor crying,” she wrote. “The next you’re playing with your children, feeling a bittersweet joy as a smile breaks through.”
She added, “Love doesn’t ask to be healed — it asks to be remembered. I carry my Charlie in every breath as I relearn how to live.”
Charlie Kirk is survived by Erika and their two young children.
The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, faces multiple charges including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice, with a hearing set for October 30.
