Christie and Wesley Werts, a loving couple, began their journey five years ago, blending their families when they married. Christie’s daughter, Megan, joined Wesley’s children, Austin and Dakota, to create a new family unit.
Their love story took an unexpected turn when they adopted a baby, Levi, after a 16-month wait. Levi’s story is especially poignant: born prematurely in Texas in August 2021, he was the child of Wesley’s ex-partner, who tragically passed away just days after giving birth.
The couple learned about Levi through his biological mother’s sister. Christie, who had experienced foster care, felt compelled to provide him a loving home. Remarkably, Christie had dreamed of a blue-eyed, blonde baby for three months before hearing about Levi. When they met him, the dream became reality.
Relocating from Ohio to Texas, the Werts family faced legal hurdles, including the termination of Levi’s biological father’s parental rights. After 16 months of court proceedings, Levi’s adoption was finalized, and the couple finally brought their son home.
Though their journey was filled with challenges, including some online criticism, many others offered support and congratulated the family.
