Donald Trump’s tougher immigration stance is gaining support, and now Republican Senator Bernie Moreno plans to introduce a bill ending dual citizenship — a move that could affect Melania and Barron Trump.
Moreno told Fox News his legislation would require Americans to declare “exclusive allegiance” to the U.S., arguing that dual citizenship creates “divided loyalties.” Under the proposed Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025, people would have one year to renounce their foreign citizenship or lose their U.S. citizenship.
The change could impact many Americans, including Melania and Barron Trump, who both hold U.S. and Slovenian citizenship. Melania, the first naturalized First Lady, gained U.S. citizenship in 2006, and Barron has strong ties to Slovenia through his late grandmother.
It remains uncertain whether the bill will pass — but if it did, the Trumps would be among those forced to choose.
