Tyna Webb, 77, had swum the same route off Fish Hoek, Cape Town, for 17 years. It was her peaceful daily routine — until a massive great white shark appeared and attacked in full view of stunned beachgoers. All that remained was her red bathing cap.
Witnesses screamed to warn her, but she couldn’t hear. The shark struck with such force that she vanished instantly. The search continued but her body was never recovered.
Tyna — an independent, nature-loving woman known for her kindness and sharp mind — treated the ocean as her home. Friends believe she understood the sea and its creatures, and that her passing was a return to the world she loved.
A life lived in the water ended in the water — completing her story.
