A newly surfaced dashcam video shows a remarkable act of bravery during the deadly Bondi Beach terror attack, capturing the moment a married Australian couple confronted a gunman before being fatally shot.
At least 15 people were killed when two gunmen opened fire on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach on December 14. Police identified the attackers as Sajid Akram, 50, who was killed at the scene, and his son Naveed Akram, 24, who remains in custody. Authorities later found extremist materials and improvised explosives linked to the suspects.
The video, verified by ABC News, shows Boris Gurman, 69, tackling a gunman as he exited his vehicle, with his wife Sofia Gurman, 61, rushing in to help. At one point, Boris appeared to briefly gain control of the weapon. The couple were later confirmed as the first two victims killed in the attack.
Married for 34 years, Boris and Sofia were remembered as selfless, generous people who instinctively tried to protect others. Witnesses called Boris a hero for running toward danger while others fled. Their family said their courage reflected who they were and asked for privacy as they grieve.
Other civilians also fought back during the attack, including Ahmed al-Ahmed and Reuven Morrison, whose actions helped save lives.
