Nick Reiner, 32, could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering his parents, famed director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following their deaths on December 14 at their Brentwood home.
Authorities say the couple had been dead for several hours when their daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered them Sunday afternoon. The scene was described as a “horror double murder.” Nick was arrested later that day.
Newly released surveillance video shows Reiner calmly buying a drink at a gas station shortly before surrendering to police about 15 miles from the crime scene. Additional footage captured him raising his hands and being taken into custody at gunpoint.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman called the deaths “beyond tragic” and said Reiner faces life without parole or possibly the death penalty, though no decision has been made yet.
