Ellen DeGeneres was seen celebrating her 68th birthday in a very different manner this year as she shared a series of thoughtful posts through her social media account on Instagram with a bold message.
The former celebrated TV host put up an image of her wife, Portia de Rossi, where the couple could be seen smiling together while DeGeneres acknowledged how she felt on this special day.

Ellen mentioned today was not an easy day for her, and to celebrate on such a tough day was not something she could do wholeheartedly.
The celeb then mentioned more about how she was holding space for what’s happening in the world and also shared gratitude for the little things she cherished, like her wife and even cookies.

The post comes at a time when Ellen had only recently mentioned her rare and political content online, publicly sharing thoughts regarding the ICE shootings and how the city of Minneapolis isn’t what it used to be when she last visited.
Before that, she also shared a video honoring slain ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot dead by federal immigration agents, as she did for Renee Nicole Good after her similar killing by ICE.
