Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, has an official cause of death: sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, ruled natural by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. She was found dead at her Alexandria home on March 22 at age 43.
Her family said Aber “died in her sleep” and noted her long struggle with epilepsy. Police confirmed no foul play was involved.
Aber served as U.S. Attorney from 2021 until January 2025, overseeing 300 staff and handling major cases including financial fraud, public corruption, and child exploitation. She began her career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2009 after graduating from William & Mary Law School.
Her successor, Erik Siebert, praised her as “unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor,” emphasizing her irreplaceable impact.
