Actor and playwright Tom Noonan has died at 74. He passed away on Feb. 14, with the news first shared by director Fred Dekker, who praised Noonan’s memorable role as Frankenstein’s monster in The Monster Squad. No cause of death has been released.
Standing 6-foot-5, Noonan became known for intense, often chilling roles, including serial killer Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter. He also appeared in RoboCop 2, Last Action Hero, and Heat, alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. His later work included The Pledge, Synecdoche, New York, and The House of the Devil.
On television, he had roles in series such as The X-Files, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and CSI. Beyond acting, he was an accomplished playwright, with works like What Happened Was… and The Wife adapted for the screen.
Though he avoided the spotlight, Noonan leaves behind a legacy of powerful, unforgettable performances in film, television, and theater.
