Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dane has died at 53, about a year after being diagnosed with ALS. His family confirmed he passed away on Thursday, February 19, surrounded by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
Best known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan (“McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy, Dane became a fan favorite after joining the show in 2006. He later gained a new generation of fans with his role on Euphoria.
Born in San Francisco in 1972, Dane discovered acting in high school and later moved to Los Angeles, landing roles in series like The Wonder Years and Married… with Children before achieving major fame.
After revealing his ALS diagnosis last year, Dane became an outspoken advocate for awareness and research, calling the disease “nasty” and sharing his early symptoms publicly. His family said he fought courageously and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Eric Dane is survived by his wife and daughters.
