The family of beloved comedian and actor Martin Short is mourning the loss of his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, who died at age 42.
In a statement to People, the family said they are “devastated” and asked for privacy, remembering Katherine for the light and joy she brought into the world. Authorities confirmed she was found dead at her Hollywood Hills home on Feb. 23, and her death was ruled a suicide. TMZ first reported the news.
Katherine was one of three children adopted by Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010. She built a career as a licensed clinical social worker, working in private practice and supporting mental health initiatives, including efforts connected to Bring Change 2 Mind.
Though she largely stayed out of the spotlight, she occasionally appeared with her father at public events. Her passing marks another profound loss for the Short family.
