A 13-year-old boy, Drew Nickerson, has died after being attacked by three large dogs while riding his bike past a private property in Welshtown, Nova Scotia. He was critically injured on Jan. 3 after being mauled by two Cane Corsos and a Rottweiler and later died in hospital.
Video footage reportedly showed the dogs running onto the roadway as Drew cycled by. One of the dog owners transported him to the hospital before he was airlifted to Halifax, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities said there were no prior complaints about the dogs, but they were later euthanized.
Family and community members remembered Drew as a kind, energetic teen who loved sports, biking, animals, and outdoor activities. A GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $150,000 to support his family, and a memorial service is scheduled for Jan. 11.
