Alex Ligertwood, longtime lead singer of Santana, has died at 79 in Los Angeles. His wife, Shawn Brogan, shared that he passed peacefully in his sleep with his dog by his side.
Ligertwood was Santana’s lead vocalist from 1979 to 1994 and became known for hits like “Winning,” “Hold On,” and “All I Ever Wanted.” His powerful voice helped define one of the band’s most successful eras.
In an emotional tribute, his wife called him “all heart and soul” and said music was his greatest passion. She also revealed he performed his final show just two weeks before his passing.
Before Santana, the Scottish singer worked with artists including Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, Average White Band, and David Sancious.
Rest in peace, Alex Ligertwood.
