For the past few weeks, my daughter had been complaining that she wasn’t sleeping well and that her bed felt too small. At first, I thought it was just a phase.

I stared at the camera screen, unable to believe what I was seeing.

Someone was lying next to Emily.

It was my mother-in-law. 😨

She had been sneaking into my daughter’s room every night and sleeping beside her under the blanket.

Suddenly, I remembered our argument months earlier. She had been furious when I decided Emily should sleep alone, saying I was a bad mother and that children shouldn’t be left by themselves at night.

Now I finally understood.

She thought she was protecting Emily, but she never realized she was making my daughter scared and uncomfortable.

The next morning, we had a serious conversation. I made it clear that my daughter’s room and my parenting decisions were not hers to control.
