Vincent Pastore, the actor best known for playing Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80.
According to reports, Pastore was found dead at his Bronx home on Aug. 1 after a neighbor became concerned when they had not heard from him for several days. While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, sources say he died of natural causes.
Born in the Bronx in 1946, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy before beginning an acting career that included roles in Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way, Law & Order, Blue Bloods, and many other films and TV shows.
His breakthrough came in 1999 when he was cast as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in The Sopranos. His unforgettable performance made the character one of the series’ most beloved and memorable figures.
After the show, Pastore remained active in film, television, stage productions, and fan events, where he continued to connect with audiences who admired his work.
Actor Michael Imperioli paid tribute, calling Pastore a “kind-hearted brother” who cared deeply for his family and friends.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee.
