Beloved Film & TV Actor Dies at 98

Veteran actor William Smithers, best known for playing oil tycoon Jeremy Wendell on Dallas, has died at the age of 98.

Over a career spanning more than 60 years, Smithers appeared in beloved TV series including The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Peyton Place, and L.A. Law, as well as films such as Papillon and The Last Picture Show.

Beyond acting, he won a landmark legal battle against MGM over contract violations and served on the national board of the Screen Actors Guild. Smithers was preceded in death by his wife, acting coach S. Loraine Hull, in 2022.
