Beloved Actress Phyllida Law Dies at 94

The world is mourning the loss of beloved Scottish actress Phyllida Law, who has died at the age of 94.

Law died peacefully at home on July 27, 2026, surrounded by her family, according to her longtime manager. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Born in Glasgow in 1932, Law built a remarkable career spanning decades, appearing in films and television shows including Nanny McPhee, Much Ado About Nothing, The Winter Guest, Midsomer Murders and Doc Martin.

She was also known as the mother of acclaimed actresses Emma Thompson and Sophie Thompson, and shared the screen with both daughters throughout her career.

Law was honored with an OBE in 2014 for her contributions to drama and charity. Her final film role came in Then Came You in 2020.

She is survived by her two daughters and four grandchildren.
