My SIL Cut Her Long Hair So Our Son Could Look Like Every Other Kid at Prom

When Viki removed her beanie, we froze.

Her beautiful 28-inch hair was completely gone.

“I sold it,” she explained. “A wigmaker paid enough for Tony’s suit.”

Evan was devastated. “You sacrificed your hair for a school dance?”

Tony immediately pushed the suit back toward her.

“I can’t wear this.”

Then Viki finally told us the truth.

“I start chemotherapy next week.”

She had been diagnosed with cancer three weeks earlier.

The doctors had told her her hair would fall out during treatment, so she decided to cut it herself and sell it rather than watch it disappear slowly.

“Cancer is already taking so much from me,” she said. “This was one thing I could still control.”

She had also wanted Tony to have the prom night he had worked so hard for.

Tony hugged her, crying.

“I would never have asked you to do this.”

“You didn’t ask,” she said. “I chose to do it.”

That night, our family learned that Viki wasn’t facing her illness alone.

Evan promised to go to every appointment with her, and I promised the same.

Weeks later, Tony wore the midnight-blue suit to prom.

Before leaving, he hugged Viki and whispered, “I’ll wear it for you.”

The suit was no longer just clothing.

It became a symbol of Viki’s courage, Tony’s hard work, and a family determined to face whatever came next—together.
