12-Year-Old South African Figure Skater Kira Meyer Dies After Scooter Accident
South African figure skater Kira Meyer has died at just 12 years old following a tragic electric scooter accident.
Kira was hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a severe brain injury. Her mother, Angelique Meyer, said Kira was airlifted to Milpark Hospital and placed in a coma as doctors battled brain swelling.
Days later, Kira was taken off sedation, but she showed no response. Her mother later revealed that three doctors had declared her brain dead and that her lungs had also failed.
Throughout the ordeal, Angelique thanked supporters for their prayers and messages.
South African Figure Skating paid tribute to Kira, describing her as a cherished member of the skating community whose presence would be deeply missed.
A memorial service was scheduled for May 22.
