Teen who flipped burgers in grad gown inspires $230,000 in donations

Posted on June 18, 2025 By admin

Just hours after graduating, Mykale Baker skipped the celebration and went straight to work at Burger King—still wearing his stole and medals—to help during the evening rush.

On May 21, instead of partying, the Georgia teen brought his mom and grandma to Burger King to celebrate with a Whopper. When he saw the late-night crowd, he jumped in to help, unaware that his life was about to change.

His quiet dedication caught the eye of Maria Mendoza, another mom there after her daughter’s graduation. Moved by his humility, she recorded him working and posted it to TikTok, calling on others to “do your thing.”

The video went viral, with over 4.5 million views, inspiring Mendoza to start a GoFundMe that raised over $230,000 for Baker’s education. Burger King later added a $10,000 scholarship.

On May 26, Mendoza surprised him with the first $6,000, bringing him to tears. Baker, who planned to delay school for financial reasons, now hopes to attend technical college.

His story, shared by his sister Mycah, highlights a humble young man who never sought attention—only purpose. In a noisy world, Baker’s quiet strength captured hearts everywhere.
