‘Who Are You?’ I Asked the Stranger in My Bed, and He Said, ‘Your Husband’ — Story of the Day

One night, I came home to find a stranger in my bed. When he woke up, he revealed a shocking truth: he was my husband’s brother, Alex, and I had unknowingly married his brother Todd, who had been using his identity.

I had no family left, my mother passed away years ago, and I didn’t know my father. After taking a DNA test, I was contacted by a man claiming to be my grandfather. He had found me and invited me to meet him. He explained that my father had died in a car accident shortly after telling his family he was marrying my mother, leaving me without any way to reach them.

My grandfather welcomed me into his life, and I eventually married a man named Alex, whom I met through a caretaker for my grandfather. But after a few months, I discovered that Alex was not the man I thought he was. Todd, his brother, had been impersonating him, using my trust to gain access to my grandfather’s company. Todd and his accomplice, Mary, were arrested for identity theft and fraud.

The real Alex and I grew closer, and after everything settled, we eventually got married for real. This experience taught me to take my time getting to know people and not to trust easily.
