Biden Warns of Rapid Policy Reversal Under Trump
In a rare public speech at the SHRM conference on July 3, former President Joe Biden voiced concern that his administration’s achievements are being quickly undone under President Trump. Without naming him, Biden criticized current policies and warned of the U.S. pulling back from global leadership, stressing the importance of NATO, which he said his administration had “significantly strengthened.” He noted continued private outreach from European leaders, despite no formal role in current diplomacy.
During Biden’s presidency, NATO expanded with Finland and Sweden joining after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The U.S. and allies sent billions in aid to Ukraine, contrasting Trump’s skepticism of NATO and allies’ defense spending. Although Trump recently affirmed support for NATO, his past criticisms remain relevant.
Biden also alluded to Trump’s newly passed domestic policy bill, suggesting it threatens foundational progress. The bill includes tax cuts, boosts immigration enforcement, and may reduce Medicaid coverage for millions by 2034.
Despite his retirement and recent cancer diagnosis—late-stage prostate cancer—Biden remains politically engaged. He mentioned bipartisan outreach and emphasized personal values, telling the audience he wants to be remembered as “a good father.”
The White House dismissed Biden’s remarks, claiming Trump has restored global respect, increased NATO spending, and neutralized threats like Iran’s nuclear program.
Book “2024” Examines Trump’s Return and Biden’s Decline
2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America details Trump’s political comeback and Democratic missteps. The book describes how Trump’s supporters identified with his legal battles, despite his criminal convictions and civil penalties. It argues that Democratic elites, internal divisions, and Biden’s faltering campaign helped pave the way for Trump’s return.
Kamala Harris, who ultimately lost to Trump, never led in internal polls. Biden’s approval fell below 50% in 2021 and never recovered. Former President Obama even warned Biden’s campaign was in disarray.
Biden’s team bristled at criticism, and advisers were largely family or dependent on him. Aide Mike Donilon blamed party leaders for forcing Biden out, despite his 2020 victory and Pennsylvania roots.
Biden’s debate struggles and physical decline added pressure, and in May 2025 he revealed a stage-four prostate cancer diagnosis.
The book also explores GOP dynamics, missed opportunities by rivals like DeSantis, and Trump’s extreme rhetoric, including hints at authoritarianism. On day one, Trump revoked security clearances from opponents and later targeted law firms and media outlets.
