Despite stepping down amid growing criticism, former President Joe Biden claims global and political leaders—including European heads of state—still seek his advice.
Speaking at a recent SHRM convention in San Diego, Biden said he continues to receive calls for counsel, though he’s not formally involved. “I’m giving advice. Because things are different,” he told SHRM President Johnny Taylor.
A video shared by strategist Chris Jackson shows Biden shifting from subdued to passionate, saying, “If America doesn’t lead the world, who can?” He added that lawmakers from both parties reach out to “bounce things off me.”
In an odd aside, Biden mentioned “laying rubber with my ’67 Corvette,” prompting critics to call the remarks out-of-touch.
His presidency faced major challenges—rising inflation, high gas prices, and border issues—along with internal Democratic pressure that led him to not seek re-election. Controversies like the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas and scandals involving his son Hunter, including preemptive pardons, drew further scrutiny.
A recent ICE report exposing failures in vetting migrant child sponsors has only intensified skepticism. Critics argue Biden’s claim of remaining an informal advisor is hard to believe given the turmoil that marked his final years in office.
