Pattie Mallette is a scriptwriter and producer, but she’s best known as the mother of pop star Justin Bieber.
Born in Stratford, Ontario, on April 2, 1975, Pattie endured a traumatic childhood. At age 2, she lost her sister in a tragic accident. She later suffered years of abuse, began using drugs at 14, and attempted suicide at 17, which led to a stay in a mental institution.
Pattie had Justin at 17 after reconnecting with Jeremy Bieber. Though they split soon after his birth, Pattie raised Justin as a single mother in low-income housing with support from her parents. Despite her troubled past, she was a devoted mom and helped nurture Justin’s musical talents—posting videos of his performances online, which led to his discovery.
In 2012, she published her memoir Nowhere But Up, detailing her struggles and how faith helped her heal and raise Justin.
Their relationship has had ups and downs—particularly during Justin’s legal troubles in 2014—but they have since reconciled. Pattie now proudly supports the man her son has become, often sharing her love and admiration for him publicly.
