Dylan Jay Watts, a 28-year-old from Broulee, NSW, was known for his deep love as a father. When his son was born, he wrote, “Words cannot describe how much more purpose I feel with you in my life.”
Despite ongoing health struggles, his sudden death on March 22 from a severe bacterial infection shocked his loved ones.
Dylan’s health had deteriorated rapidly since 2021, when scans found two holes in his lungs — a number that grew to 72 by mid-2024. He suffered constant coughing, reflux, fatigue, and mental health challenges. In early 2024, after a lung hemorrhage, he spent three weeks hospitalized and was on heavy medication.
Still, Dylan remained hopeful, though doctors warned he might not live past 30. Just days before his death, he returned home with his dog to arrange long-term care — but died five days later, shortly before his 29th birthday.
A GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs has raised over AU$4,600 of its AU$6,000 goal.
His sister Caitlyn wrote, “Let this be a reminder that those you love can be gone in an instant… He will be forever missed.”
