Marianne Faithfull Dies at 78
Singer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died at age 78, a spokesperson confirmed, as reported by the Daily Mail. Tributes are pouring in for the iconic artist, best known for her 1964 hit As Tears Go By, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
Born on December 29, 1946, in Hampstead, London, Faithfull rose to fame in the 1960s with her ethereal voice and striking presence. Discovered at a Rolling Stones party, she quickly became a key figure in the music and cultural scene, also known for her relationship with Jagger.
Despite struggles with addiction and a career downturn in the ’70s, she made a powerful comeback with her 1979 album Broken English. Her raw, husky vocals redefined her sound and legacy.
Faithfull also acted in films like The Girl on a Motorcycle and Marie Antoinette, and remained active in music and theatre throughout her life, even after serious health battles, including COVID-19 in 2020.
“She passed away peacefully in London, surrounded by family,” the statement read. “She will be dearly missed.”
