Prince William and Kate Middleton met at university and were seen as the perfect couple. However, they split in 2007, leading many to believe their love story had ended.
According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, William was determined to win Kate back. In his memoir The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life in Royal Service, Harrold shares that William made a heartfelt romantic gesture — organizing their first-ever formal Valentine’s Day dinner in 2008 — to show he was serious about their future.
“It was like a reset,” Harrold recalled. “This time, they were both making more of an effort. William was showing, ‘I’m serious. This is going to the next level.’”
The gesture worked, and the couple rekindled their relationship — eventually leading to their royal wedding and life together as future king and queen.
