Director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday, with police investigating a possible homicide. A family spokesperson confirmed their deaths and requested privacy.
Reiner, 78, was a Hollywood icon behind films like The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, This Is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men. Beyond filmmaking, he was deeply involved in politics, particularly Democratic causes, LGBTQ+ rights, and early childhood education. He co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which helped overturn California’s same-sex marriage ban.
Reiner was also an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump. In past interviews, he called Trump “mentally unfit” to be president and later described him as a “criminal.” While promoting his 2023 documentary God and Country, Reiner criticized Trump’s use of Christian values and strongly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election, saying it was better to have “an old guy” in office than Trump.
His death has shocked both the entertainment and political worlds as investigations continue.
