Bears are highly intelligent animals, yet thousands are still kept in cruel captivity. One of them was Caesar, a bear who spent years suffering on a bile farm in China.
Caesar was confined to a tiny space, forced to wear a metal “torture vest,” and had bile continuously drained from her gallbladder for use in traditional medicine. She lived with open wounds and constant pain, with no freedom to move.
In 2004, Animals Asia rescued Caesar, freeing her from the vest and providing urgent medical care. Despite severe trauma, she slowly healed and transformed into a strong, majestic bear, spending her days swimming, sunbathing, and digging at the sanctuary.
Sadly, the damage from years of abuse caught up with her. Caesar later developed an aggressive tumor linked to her past suffering and eventually passed away.
Her story is a powerful reminder that thousands of bears still endure this cruelty, and that the fight to end bile farming is far from over.
