Twelve years ago, during an early morning trash route, I found something that changed my life—two baby girls, abandoned in a stroller in the freezing cold.
They were tiny, no older than six months, left with almost nothing. I called 911 and stayed with them until police and child services arrived. But I couldn’t forget them.
That night, I told my husband everything. When he asked, “What if we foster them?”—we knew we had to try.
After weeks of checks and interviews, we learned the twins were profoundly deaf. Many families would’ve walked away—but we didn’t. We chose them.
Hannah and Diana came into our lives, and everything changed. We learned sign language, struggled financially, and adjusted to a new world—but we never gave up. Slowly, we became a family.
As they grew, their talents shined. Hannah loved art, Diana loved building things. At 12, they created adaptive clothing designs for kids with disabilities—and a company later turned their idea into a real line worth over $500,000.
But the real success wasn’t money.
It was hearing them sign “Mom” and “Dad.” It was knowing they felt loved, safe, and chosen.
Those two babies I found on a cold sidewalk became my daughters.
And while I saved them that morning… they saved me too.
